Researchers and Research Assistants

The Open Institute is working on a new and exciting project to support the Ministry of Women's Affairs in the preparation of a Gender Observatory for Cambodia. For this work, the project is seeking qualified candidates to fill in positions of researchers and research assistants.


The researchers and assistants will join a team which will be in charge of the following tasks:

  1. Research on existing or past gender-related policies in Cambodia.
  2. Classification of the above-mentioned policies.
  3. Preparation of a catalog of gender indicators in Cambodia.
  4. Classify all gender research that has taken place in Cambodia.
  5. Undertake research on gender issues.

A qualified researcher has sufficient experience to manage a research project by herself or himself, defining the objectives to be achieved, designing the research, managing data collection, understanding the data analysis techniques that need to be used to reach conclusions related to the objectives, reaching results from the data analysis, discussing the results and formulating them as conclusion and recommendations. Such researcher has personally lead at least one rigorous research project (other than an undergraduate thesis).


Besides the above description, a researcher must fulfil the following requirements:

  1. Master level studies in one of the social sciences.
  2. Experience in research (experience in both qualitative and quantitative research will be specially valued). Research experience on policy will be highly valued.
  3. Fluent in Khmer and English. Advanced Khmer writing skills.
  4. Experience on the use of Internet for research.
  5. Training or experience on gender issues will be valued.
  6. Research publications will be highly valued.

A qualified research assistant has experience in participating in research projects managed by others, collecting data or helping with the analysis. A good assistant is able to assume responsibility for gathering information for a specific part of the research, finding the possible sources of information and taking the necessary actions to collect, analyse, synthesise and classify the required information.


Besides the above description, a research assistant must fulfil the following requirements:

  1. University studies in one of the social sciences.
  2. Experience in research assistance (experience in both qualitative and quantitative research will be specially valued).
  3. Fluent in Khmer and English. Advanced Khmer writing skills.
  4. Experience on the use of Internet for research.
  5. Training or experience on gender issues will be valued.
