The Open Institute is a local Cambodian NGO which supports the social and economic development of Cambodia by working in two major fields: gender equity and information technology development.
The Open Institute is starting a new and exciting project to support the Ministry of Women's Affairs in the preparation of a Gender Observatory for Cambodia. For this work, the project is seeking qualified candidates to fill in a position of Social Analyst (1 position) and Researchers (3 positions).
Responsibilities the Social Analyst:
- Identify and prioritize the most crucial problems that affect women in Cambodia.
- Update and collect information about services for women offered by government and civil society.
- Develop a series of publications to be inform Cambodian women in moment of crisis about the courses of action that they can take or about the resources that are available to them.
- Select the entities that would be in a position to distribute these publications with a significant impact.
Requirements for Social Analyst:
- Fluent in Khmer and English. Advanced Khmer writing skills
- University studies in one of the social sciences, preferably on social work.
- Experience on assistance to rural, illiterate and/or low income women in the field.
- Experience on the use of Internet for research
- Experience with people with disabilities will be valued.
- Training or experience on gender issues will be valued.
The Researchers will join a team which will be in charge of the following tasks:
- Research on existing or past gender-related policies in Cambodia
- Classification of the above-mentioned policies
- Preparation of indicators for gender policies which have not yet defined them
- Preparation of a catalog of gender indicators in Cambodia
- Classify all gender research that has taken place in Cambodia
- Writing of research reports.
Requirements for Researchers:
- Fluent in Khmer and English. Advanced Khmer writing skills
- Master level studies in one of the social sciences.
- Experience in research (experience in both qualitative and quantitative research will be specially valued).
- Experience on the use of Internet for research
- Training or experience on gender issues will be valued.
- Research publications will be valued.
The positions will be based in Phnom Penh. The initial contract will be until the end of 2011, with possibility of renewal depending on merit.
