Job Opportunity: two programmers to work on Open Source Software (Expired)

A part of the work of the KhmerOS project, the Open Institute has been developing - for the last two years - Free and Open Source translation and localization tools that are used all over the world to facilitate the localization of computer programs. These tools facilitate the translation of sofware and content from English to other languages. The WordForge Localization Editor, fully developed in Cambodia, uses the latest standards (XLIFF) and Computer Assisted Translation techniques -some of them defined here - to produce the most advanced free tool for localization that can be found.

The Open Institute is searching for two programmers who would like to join this project as full time employees of the Open Institute. The WordForge Editor is being done in Python programming language. They will be joining a growing international community of users who will help them do their work in the best possible way, thinking together about how to make the tools even better.

The main quailification that we expect of candidates is - of course - being good programmers. We assume that this means something like:

* A Bachelor degree of Computer Science or equivalent.
* At least one year of experience on object oriented programming (Python, Java, C++).
* Good interpersonal skill and motivation to work for a social project.

Of course experience in Python would be the best, but the main skill that we search for the hability to understand and be able to use effectivelly object oriented programming.

Selected candidates are expected to be able to have good interpersonal relations with the rest of the existing team, as for us a good work environment is key to the well-being of all of us, and it is more important than the skills that we can acquire with new work-mates. Selected candidates will be joining a young organization that works full time to ensure that the use of ICT is not a barrier to the economic development of Cambodia.

Qualified candidates are invited to submit a CV to House 19 Street 374, Sangkat Tuol Svay Prey I, Khan Chamkarmorn, or send it by e-mail to coordinator@khmeros.info before 15th December 2008. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. Qualified women are encouraged to apply.
