Job Opportunity: International Teacher with Open Schools Program (Expired)

The Open Schools Program is seeking a qualified, creative and dynamic volunteer to work part time on the River of Knowledge Project. The projects long term goals are to produce high quality training materials in all subjects – demonstration classes in video format – to improve the quality of teaching and learning for general education and for teacher professional development, especially in rural schools.
During the 2008 – 2009 academic year, a highly competent 6th grade teacher in a rural school and capable 12th grade teachers in upper secondary school in Phnom Penh will be filmed for one year as a beginning of the pilot project. They will use the 6th grade Khmer Mathematic text and the 12th grade textbooks of the subjects required for the national examination as a basis for creative and innovative teaching.
Since the quality of teaching in the rural areas is quite poor, this new professional development format will be an opportunity for teachers all over the country to see and participate in high quality teaching. Monthly Technical Group Meetings and other training opportunities at the district and provincial levels will offer excellent venues for using these quality video lessons. A top quality volunteer is needed to work with the teacher and the project manager to help design instruction that allows students to think more deeply and more critically. This post will have highly flexible hours.
Job Duties:
* Work closely with National Project Manager to identify creative teaching techniques based on the MoEYS’s textbooks
* If desirous, work with the Khmer teachers being filmed to offer both support and inspiration.
Professional background:
* Degree in Education
* Have at least 3 years successful and creative professional teaching experience
* Some understanding of the Cambodian educational system would be an advantage but not a requirement.
