Job Opportunity: Freelance Editor of the Women Program (Expired)

The Open Institute is a local non-governmental and not-for-profit organization whose mission is to facilitate knowledge sharing and communication for social development in Cambodia. It presently runs six programs: KhmerOS, Women Empowerment for Social Change, E-learning, Open Schools, Publications and Lexicography.

The Open Institute is seeking a qualified candidate for Freelance Editor of the Women Program. The mission of Women program is to inform and facilitate discussion on women issues and their rights, and empower women through the training and strategic use of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

1. Responsibilities

To write editorials on women issues and on strategic use of Information Communication Technology for Women web portal. To be responsible for content development and publishing of the Women web portal.

2. Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in journalism or equivalence.
  • Having at least two years experience in dealing with editorial writing.
  • Computer, E-mail and Internet literacy, and Khmer typing.
  • Speak and write good Khmer and English languages.

3. Editorial

Interested candidates are required to write an editorial.

Possible Topics:

  • Gender and Information Communication Technology
  • Domestic Violence, Rape and Trafficking focus on causes, effects and access to justice
  • Strengthening communication and networking of women organizations and women contributors;
  • Life and career challenges and shaping changes for a betterment of women status


Words limit:
the total words in the editorial should not be more than 600 words.

Languages: two versions of the editorial in Khmer and in English.

Guideline:

  • A topic to write an editorial should be selected from the above “Possible Topics”
  • Writing should be based on some facts in Cambodian society relevant to a topic of selection.
  • The editorial should also include your personal views about the topic as well as your recommendations on how the situation should be improved.
  • The submitted editorial should be all typed in computer.
